Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is confident that he will sign a new contract with the Gunners.

The 25-year-old put in a confident performance on Thursday night, helping lead Arsene Wenger’s side to a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace with a display which included a classy assist for Alexis Sanchez to grab his second of the game.

Wenger has made it clear that he will sit down with the midfielder to discuss his contract in the coming weeks, saying after the match: “It’s planned – there is no delay. Jack is coming back into competitive shape. He gives something to the team at the moment, and gave a good final ball for the third goal.”

Wilshere also believes that a deal is in the works, and has faith in Wenger’s words.

“I have spoken to the boss and he says he will speak to me – I’m sure it will get done,” the midfielder told Sky Sports.

While Wilshere was sent out on loan last season, an injury to Aaron Ramsey has opened up a chance for him to return to the starting side in recent weeks.

The win over Palace was the fourth consecutive match in the league that has seen the midfielder complete the full 90 minutes.

But when asked if he was returning to his best form, Wilshere was hesitant.

“It’s difficult to say. I was happy with my form last year, I’m probably better now,” he said.

“I feel better, fitter. I’m getting better each game.

“I’m enjoying my football, another game, another three points, I’m happy.”

Arsenal face a quick turnaround, with the club facing a match against West Brom on Sunday before a showdown with Chelsea next Wednesday.
