The First National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Frederick Fredua Antoh, has advised members, particularly those who have grievances, to exhaust all the grievance resolution mechanisms within the party before resorting to the court of law.

He expressed his concern about the practice whereby members were quick to go to the law court whenever they had a problem with the party without recourse to the constitutions and structures of the party.

This, he said, did not augur well for the party and advised members to follow the party structures when seeking redress rather than wash their dirty linen in public.

CONFERENCE

Speaking at the 25th Annual Regional Delegates Conference of the NPP in Kumasi last Sunday, he also cautioned members to desist from discussing party issues on radio. That, he said, would be playing into the hands of their detractors and political opponents.

According to him, one of the major challenges facing the NPP particularly in the Ashanti Region, is indiscipline where party members have blatantly refused to abide by party rules and regulations. He said for the party to retain power, there was the need for all and sundry to unite and end the brickering.

COLLABORATION

He also asked government appointees, particularly the District Chief Executives (DCEs), not to neglect the grass roots, since it was their hard work that brought the party to power.

He said the practice whereby the DCE ignored the party members claiming they were only answerable to the President should be a thing of the past.

REGIONAL CHAIRMAN

For his part, the Regional Chairman of the party, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also reiterated the call on government appointees not to neglect party members.

He commended party members for their dedication and hard work which ensured a resounding victory for the party. He pledged to help the party to wrest the other three seats out of the 47 currently occupied by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the next election.

MORE DISTRICTS

The Senior Minister, Mr Yaw Osafo- Maafo, who represented the President, said the government would soon send a Legislation Instrument (LI) to Parliament to create more districts in the country particularly in the Ashanti and Eastern regions.

He said these regions had the smallest number of districts and the creation of more districts would ensure an even distribution of the national cake. It is expected that the Ashanti Region would have additional 13 districts to increase the tally to 43.

Currently, the region has only 30 districts.

Also, as part of the government’s effort to bring more development to the country, the government has decided to divide the country into three development authorities, namely the Coastal Development Authority comprising Greater Accra, Central, Volta and Western regions; the Middle Belt Development Authority made of the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and the Eastern regions and the Northern Development Authority which would have the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions to address their speicial needs.
