Director General of the National Sports Authority, Robert Sarfo-Mensah, says he is confident the Accra Sports Stadium will be ready to host next year’s African Women’s Championship, despite the rumoured dissatisfaction of the CAF delegation at the facility.

A CAF delegation was in Accra earlier this month for an initial inspection of some of the proposed venues for the tournament to be hosted in Ghana and were not particularly happy with the state of Accra Sports Stadium.

The Cape Coast Stadium has been confirmed as one of the stadia which will be used for the tournament, but there is still some uncertainty surrounding the readiness of the Accra Stadium ahead of the tournament.

Sarfo-Mensah is however remaining upbeat about the stadium’s readiness ahead of the tournament in November next year.

“I haven’t received the official confirmation yet but the rumours I am hearing is that they were not impressed with the state of the Accra Sports Stadium,” he said.

“It is not surprising, and that is why we are going to renovate it, so I believe when the CAF delegation comes back for the second inspection, the stadium will be ready.

“Surely the stadium will be ready in time to host the Africa Women’s Championship.”

The African Women’s Championship is scheduled for November 17 to December 1 2018, and doubles as the qualification to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
