Venue records tumbled, lovers united and a bouncer got a blast as Adele’s first tour of Australia wrapped Sunday (March 19) in Melbourne.
First, the numbers. The final destination on her five-city, eight-show trek gave Adele the perfect send-off as she completed a record-busting weekend. The singer set a new benchmark for Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium when 77,300 fans came through the gate Sunday night, besting the record she set the previous night by roughly 2,000.
Live Nation has yet to publish top box office counts across Adele’s Live 2017 jaunt Down Under, which now enters the final straight with three shows at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand (this Thursday, Saturday and Sunday).
Those record crowds took home some golden memories which, thanks to the wonders of technology, were captured and shared on social media for the rest of the world to gawp at.
In one special moment on Sunday, Adele played matchmaker for a marriage proposal between Chris and Wade. Watch below as Wade dropped to one knee and popped the big question.
And in another highlight, Adele gave a tongue lashing to a security guard who was behaving like a killjoy. “Excuse me sir, I know you work here but could you stop telling people to sit down? This is a music show,” Adele explained. “If people can’t see they can stand up.
