One person is reported dead and several others injured after Asante Kotoko bus rammed into a truck – The police commander in the area says the driver of the kotoko bus was probably overspeeding.

The driver of the Kumasi Asante Kotoko bus has been accused of the accident that involved the club’s bus and a truck at Nkawkaw near Abepotia Wednesday night resulting in the loss of one life.

According to the Nkawkaw Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Jeff Darko the accident could have been avoided if the driver a little bit careful.

“If the driver had driven with caution and at a reduced speed” this would not have happened. Speaking on Accra-based Rainbow Radio, the police commander said contrary to earlier report in the media that the truck was parked or stationary “the driver of the Kotoko bus “did not exhibit discipline on the road”.

He revealed that the truck with registration number AS 7329-13, was not parked but in motion.

“I don’t know if the driver did not see the road properly because if you were following a car which was not parked but in motion and ran into it, that was unfortunate. I will admonish drivers to exercise restraint, drive with caution, and reduce their speed,” the police chief said.

So far the club has reported that one person, deputy kit and equipment officer, Kofi Asare died in the accident. Several members of the club suffered various degrees of injuries, with coach Steve Polack believed to be in a critical condition.

Also the driver of the Kotoko bus, Berchie is in a critical condition and receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. The players were returning to Kumasi after playing Inter Allies in week 22 fixture of the Ghana Premier League. Kotoko lost by a goal to nil.
