The Accra Central District Court has committed the 14 people accused of killing Major Maxwell Adam Mahama at Denkyira Obuasi to stand trial for murder at the High court. The accused persons are William Baah, the Assemblyman of Denkyira Obuasi; Bernard Asamoah alias Daddy; Kofi Nyarko aka Abortion; Akwasi Baah; Kwame Tuffour; Joseph Appiah Kubi; Michael Anim and Bismarck Donkor.

Others are John Bosie; Akwasi Baah; Charles Kwaning; Emmanuel Badu; Bismarck Abanga and Kwadwo Anima.

All of them have been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

The court presided over by Mr Ebenezer Kweku Ansah made the decision after state prosecutors indicted the 14 persons for the death of the military officer.

According to the magistrate, there was ample evidence to warrant their trial at the High Court.

“I, therefore, commit them to stand trial at the High Court to answer the charges leveled against them,“ he said.

The trial, the magistrate said, would commence at the High Court on February 15, 2018.

A Chief State Attorney, Ms Evelyn Keelson, informed the court that the state intended to call 15 witnesses during the trial and also rely on 52 exhibits as evidence.

The exhibits include the burnt shirt of Major Mahama, his mobile phone, sticks, metal rods, stones and other tools allegedly used by the accused persons to lynch the military officer.

Others are crime scene photographs, the video recording that captured the lynching among other exhibits.
