Just when you thought Adele’s first tour of Australia couldn’t get any better, this moment in her final concert topped it all.
Adele is known for pulling fans on stage during her stadium shows, but even she was surprised when a man proposed to his partner in front of the crowd at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium.
Chris, 37, caught the singer’s eye when he burst into tears during the opening number ‘Hello’. Adele hadn’t gotten around to writing letters that she usually hides underneath seats at her show, so to make up for it, she invited Chris and his partner, Wade, on stage.
That was when Wade dropped to one knee and asked for Chris’ hand. He said yes.
Adele hugged the couple, saying, “I had no idea that was going to happen.”
Between belting out hits, she carried on with her legendary crowd banter. At one point, she called out a security guard for telling people to sit down.
“Just before we go to the next song … excuse me sir? Could you stop telling people to sit down?” Adele said.
“If you don’t like dancing, don’t come to a f***ing music show.
“If I see one more person get told to sit down, I swear to God.”
There was also this moment when she pulled some Beyoncé-style moves in the wind machine:
The songstress played to a record crowd of 77,000 fans at the final concert. Her two Melbourne shows had the highest attendance of any event at Etihad Stadium since it opened in 2000. She will now depart Australia for a show in Auckland.
Let’s hope she doesn’t wait long too before returning to set fire to the rain once again.
Another record crowd of 77,000! @Adele you have well and truly conquered Melbourne AND Australia. Come back soon!
