Multiple award winning gospel artiste, Joe Mettle has revealed that his account of the achievement of success for the 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is to win the artiste of the year.
“Once you’re nominated for four (4) categories, you expect four but if you don’t get all the four and get three, you take it like that. My biggest success story is obviously to win the artiste of the year not actually for me but for the the fact that is the highest category in the whole award scheme so anybody who wins is the highest honours….. We will win it for the christian community and the gospel industry.”
When asked by host of Live Praise, Pastor Michael Sagoe, if Gospel artiste in Ghana are being recognised that much when it comes to VGMA, Mettle replied, “I think that over the years it’s been good and we’ve come far and the fact that it’s now being recognised. You can see more names of gospel artistes on the list now than back in the days so I think it’s been good now.”
Joe Mettle revealed that it is possible for a gospel artiste to win the ultimate honour (Artiste of the year).
Commenting on how most gospel artistes begin their career on good note, Mettle explained that it is a human nature but when such musicians are not reminded of where they came from and the reason why they are where they are now, then it gets to that point to show off such unpleasant attitude.
“The greatest enemy isn’t anybody else but you… I mean you’re the only person who can bring yourself down.”
Speaking about his humble behaviour, Mettle disclosed that he was first a minister before becoming an artiste so his ministry proceeds his artistry and that is what keeps him meek.
According to him, he prefers to be that modest to all and have no intentions to change anytime soon.
