The Sekondi Takoradi chamber of commerce and industry has held a public lecture on revitalisation of the railway sector and its impact and implication on the twin city of Sekondi and Takoradi.
Following the expansion of both the Tema and Takoradi ports of Ghana, it has become increasingly necessary for the rail sector in the country to be revived.
This is expected to increase the efficiency of the ports of Ghana ahead of its competitors in the West African sub-region and also improve the transit trade.
The Marketing and Public Affairs Manager at the Port of Takoradi, Peter Amo Bediako said an effective railway sector will have a great impact on the national economy and win the majority of the transit trade for the country.
He said Ghana’s neighbouring countries are developing their railway sectors in their respective countries, hence, Ghana will be lagging behind if the necessary attention is not given to the rail sector.
Nana Kwabena Nketia II, the Paramount Chief of Eskado stressed the need for the port and rail sectors to be developed alongside the cities in which they are located.
He added that the revamping of the rail sector will reduce the spate at which roads in the country get destroyed.
