CAF CL: GFA veep believes Aduana will progress

Ghana Football Association vice president George Afriyie believes Aduana Stars can still eliminate Algeria’s ES Setif from the CAF Champions league despite a slim advantage heading into the second leg.

The return leg for Aduana is a mountain to climb following the narrow 1-0 win at the Dormaa Park on Wednesday.

The Ghanaian champions had to wait until the 74th minute to negotiate their way past the resolute defence of Setif. The goal came from the penalty spot.

With the scoreline, Setif, who are two-time champions, have been highly tipped to progress to group stage at the expense of Aduana but Afriyie is very hopeful.

“It’s football but we must concede that Setif is a good team. They are tactically and technically disciplined,” he said

“They know what to do at that time. They know when to close in and open up. They know what they came here for.

“It has to take the technical team of Aduana Stars to re-strategize and plan

“However, it’s not a mission impossible. Anything can happen.

“You know in games like this, I would adopt an away strategy to frustrate them. Sit back and open up when it’s necessary.”

The second leg will be honoured next week.
