VW to buy back diesel cars

VW has agreed to buy back some diesel cars equipped with illicit emissions control software in Germany.

The company decided not to appeal court rulings backing claimant’s calls for compensation.

VW said its decision to forego an appeal was an exception and stemmed from the low value of the vehicles in question.

It said it had no bearing on ongoing cases.

Despite VW’s admission of wrongdoing in the US, the company says it has not broken the law in Europe and sees no reason to compensate customers.

It has said it will fix all affected vehicles by the autumn.
